Mitch Witt

Mitch has been surveying sailing and power yachts, and fishing vessels since 1996, Mitch joined SAMS in 2005 gaining AMS accreditation in 2009 he continues to provide detailed, unbiased inspections, applying years of experience with mechanical quality inspection for clients.

Additionally, working for Lloyds affiliates (UK) as well as US Underwriters he conducts thorough damage surveys and detailed claim evaluations, analyzing cause and effect for Lightning, Fire, and Sinking’s along the Gulf Coast, Florida, the Chesapeake and Puerto Rico.  Evaluating extensive repair invoices has shown duplications and excessive labor charges.

Mitch also assists beginning cruisers with training, yacht evaluation and recommendations for reliability, safety and comfort. "Reliability being an often overlooked consideration in selecting equipment and outfitting for cruising.”

Previously, Mitch has over 25 years experience and training in highly specialized mechanical installation, QAQC and testing of hazardous and life critical industrial processes and was formerly an offshore supervisor providing subsea services supporting offshore petroleum exploration and production. He has held positions in project management, quality assurance and quality control. This experience provides a solid background for marine inspection where offshore safety and reliability are essential.

Vessel Survey training includes instruction by celebrated Author Nigel Calder and Sr Surveyor Paul Coble at the Wooden Boat School, Brooklyn Maine in 1993.  He participates in continuous training through the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, American Boat and Yacht Council and other organizations. 

In 1995, he renovated a 42’ sloop eventually completing two, 2 year cruises to the Caribbean totaling over 16,000 nautical miles.
